Don't forget to file for your Homestead Exemption!

Hey guys, [JOE AGENT] with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty Texas here, & I have a great piece of information here that can save you a ton of money on your property taxes! You might already know where I’m going with this, but if you don’t...I’m referring to filing for a Residential Homestead Exemption on your primary residence.
A Homestead Exemption allows you to lower the taxable value of your home by the County which in turn lowers your property tax. With a Homestead Exemption in effect on your property, the County tax assessor can only raise your home’s taxable value by a maximum of 10% year-over-year. In a steady market like Dallas/Fort Worth where we continue to see increases in home values in many areas, this is a must-have to mitigate the hit on your finances.
Filing for your Homestead Exemption is easy. Simply go to your County Appraisal Districts website & complete the appropriate paperwork on-line. Don’t be fooled by official-looking documents you may receive in the mail offering to file for you for a fee. This is an absolutely FREE process & is very quick & easy to complete.
To be eligible, you must have lived in the subject property as your primary residence since January 1st & file your Homestead paperwork before April 30th of the current year. If you have any questions about filing or need help finding your Appraisal District site, please give me a call as I would be thrilled to help you save money come tax season.
