This alert is to warn you of a growing number of Facebook profiles that have been hacked or otherwise compromised in the last few weeks.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Our friends at Facebook strongly recommend that you activate two-factor authentication to protect your accounts.
Two-factor authentication is a security feature that asks you to enter a special confirmation code when you log in to your account. It can also alert you when someone tries logging in from an unfamiliar device.
To turn on Facebook's two-factor authentication feature:
1. Log in to your Facebook account, then go to your Security and Login settings:
On desktop: click on the upside down triangle in the top-right corner > Settings and Privacy > Settings > Security and Login.
On mobile: tap on the three horizontal lines in the bottom-right corner, then scroll down to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Security and Login
2. Scroll down to "Use two-factor authentication," and click or tap "Edit"
3. Choose the authentication method you want, then follow the onscreen instructions.
4. Click "Enable."
